Van Gool is voluntary vice president of the NPCH, a Dutch-Polish council for trade promotion.  Professor Slawomir Wiak graduated from the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering of Lodz University of Technology in 1973. He gained a PhD degree in 1979. In 1990, he successfully completed his habilitation procedure. He was awarded the title of professor in 2002.

Director of the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems (since 2007). Dean of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (2008 -2012). Vice-Rector for Education of Lodz University of Technology (2012 – 2016). At present, he serves as Rector of Lodz University of Technology.

Fields of scientific expertise:Computer science, Electrical engineering.

Main research areas: Mechatronic Systems, Information Technology, Numerical Models, Expert Systems, Data Base Systems, E-learning systems.  

Professor Wiak has lectured extensively abroad and has been invited as a visiting professor to University of Pavia, Italy and Universite d’Artois, France.

The Professor collaborates or has collaborated with various foreign scientific centers, including the University of Southampton, National Technical University of Athens, University of Pavia, University of Maribor, University of Prague and University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, University of Coimbra, University of Valencia and University of Vigo, Artois University in Berthune, METU in Ankara and the Czech Academy of Sciences.

 Professor Wiak is a member of 17 International Scientific Conference Committees and the National Foresight Programme “Poland 2020”  Committee. His scientific output includes over 400 scientific articles (incl. 18 monographs) and participation in 21 research (national and international) projects. He is an author of more than 580 reviews of international conference papers and scientific papers published in prestigious journals. Professor Wiak was a doctoral supervisor of 11 PhD students .

He has been awarded: the Gold Cross of Merit, the Silver Cross of Merit, the Silver Medal of Alessandro Volta of the University of Pavia, the Pro Patria Medal, the Honorary Badge of Lodz, the Commemorative Medal of Professor Eugeniusz Jezierski (awarded by the Lodz Division of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers).
